Jun Yang Gan - Roy Ellis Bursary

Jun is in his fifth year of studies at the University of Regina, pursuing a degree in Sports and Recreation Management. Passionate about community involvement, Jun participated in the 15th European Association for Sport Management (EASM) in Madrid, gaining valuable insights for a future career in sport management.

Receiving the Roy Ellis Bursary is a profound honor. This award acknowledges the dedication of his professors at the University of Regina and reflects the hard work and community engagement that led to this achievement. It symbolizes that perseverance and active involvement can lead to meaningful accomplishments.

Next steps in Jun’s recreation journey include seeking job and volunteer opportunities in sports and recreation for the summer and fall. These experiences will help apply academic knowledge in real-world settings and further develop industry skills.

Currently, Jun is excited to volunteer with S.A.R.P. for the upcoming S.A.R.P. Fall event in Saskatoon, working alongside Jordan and other personnel to create a memorable event.

Mikhaela Abad - S.A.R.P. Development Scholarship

Mikhaela Abad is a first-year Therapeutic Recreation student at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Saskatoon. She is passionate about helping others and bringing smiles to their faces. In her free time, Mikha loves cooking new kinds of foods and crocheting. She sets goals to reduce screen time and spend more time gaining skills and knowledge. Whether through her studies, community involvement, or everyday interactions—she strives to positively impact the lives of those around her.

Mikhaela is honored to receive the S.A.R.P. Development Scholarship. This bursary will significantly ease the financial burden of purchasing books and other essential school materials for the next academic year, allowing her to focus more on her studies and less on financial stress.

Mikhaela’s next steps in her recreation journey include broadening her experience by working with different population groups during her placements. She is eager to learn from these diverse experiences and apply this knowledge to help more people through recreational activities.

Rourke Carter Wunder-Buhr - S.A.R.P. Board of Directors Scholarship

Rourke Carter Wunder-Buhr is a fourth-year kinesiology student at the University of Saskatchewan. She is passionate about using recreation to get people active, which inspired her pursuit of a degree in kinesiology and sport sciences. Rourke enjoys basketball, flag football, baton twirling, and rock climbing, participating as a coach, participant or judge.

Rourke is honoured to receive this scholarship as it eases the financial burden of tuition, allowing her to focus on her education. It also recognizes her contributions to recreation in Saskatchewan and motivates her to continue her involvement.

After graduation in December, Rourke hopes to continue working with Parks Canada or another parks organization. She plans to stay active in recreation in various roles and is open to new opportunities.
